I have two new obsessions: Shoes and cycling. Shoes because they perform a function yet have an inherent mysteriousness. They are technically constructed and put us in touch with the earth. They are also often overlooked because of the distance between our eyes and the ground. Cycling because of the element of adventure and freedom as well as the ridiculous health aspects and possibilities for extremeness. This Friday my old mate and I are going to attempt to ride from North London to Brighton and back in one day. About 200kms. I am sure this is going to bring us into contact with levels of pain we didn’t know existed! But it should be a right old blast too.
